I swear you could spend every week of the year attending a genre film fest. What a time to be alive!
While Americans are still crawling out of out Thanksgiving food comas, Monster Fest is well underway in Melbourne, Australia. Opening with the stellar French cannibal flick RAW the fest stared with one of the best horror films to come out in years.
Watching Monster Fest (from afar, sadly) find its footing since its founding in 2011, it is clear that the fest is not overly concerned with shocking audiences for the sake of press, or gaining genre street-cred for the most extreme screenings. Instead it has honed itself as an cinematic experience, with workshops, and visiting directors and programmers, catering to the genre fan as a three-dimentional media consumer.
If I have my way, I’ll be able to attend the fest… someday.
