This Halloween season, you can queue up horror that takes place in the sleepy town of Haddonfield for the umpteenth time, or you can take a virtual journey across the ocean, to the sleepy central Europe hamlet of Slovenia. The former Communist country is importing its first slasher film stateside on October 25th, as KILLBILLIES (Idyll) will be available on DVD, blu-ray and all manners of video on demand services.
When you think of Hillbilly horror movies, the first thoughts that spring to mind are the Sawyer clan from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or the weirdo mutants from the Wrong Turn series. Killbillies hopes to prove that the Southern United States doesn’t have a stranglehold on inbred murderers running amok. The film comes to the US via ARTSPLOITATION, which has been one of the most consistent distributors of edgy, dark, and experimental horror films the past few years. This one looks like a ton of fun, so mark your calendars. Details and trailer below:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Proving that the American South does not hold a monopoly on sexually depraved, bloodthirsty hillbillies,Killbilllies (aka: Idyll,Idila) depicts a harrowing tale of abduction, violence and hoped-for survival, in Slovenia’s first ever horror movie. A group of fashionistas from the city, including models Zina and Mia, make-up artist Dragica and photographer Blitcz, begin to shoot on an idyllic countryside hilltop. But soon, two physically deformed psychopathic countrymen approach them and quickly attack. After the terrified group finds themselves chained in a basement and awaiting their gruesome fate, they decide they must fight no matter what the odds. A wild, bloody, taut clash ensues between urban and rural, women and men, between savages and civilized man. A fresh, sadistic take on such classics as The Hills Have Eyes and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
